Robert Purcell Emergency Rescue Services

Rob was born in Coburg and grew up in Essendon, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Rob initially worked as a qualified electrician before joining the Metropolitan Fire Brigade in 1989 as a Firefighter working in various stations around Melbourne.

Rob qualified as a Station Officer in 1995. As well as working on shift operations Rob worked as a Fire Investigator and Training Officer. As a Senior Station Officer in 1999 Rob was seconded to work with the New South Wales Fire Brigade in operations and on the Sydney Olympics Project – Logistics.

On his return to Melbourne, he took up a day duty position reviewing and developing operational procedures and managing specialist projects.
In 2004 Rob was promoted to Commander and appointed Manager of Equipment and Resource Management and was responsible for planning and consultation on appliance and equipment design and deployment, business continuity management and service and maintenance of life safety equipment.

In December 2009, Rob was appointed as an Asssitant Chief Fire Officer and was responsible for Operational Training until August 2011.

Rob was appointed to the role of Director Regional Community Resilience North West Metro Region in August 2011 and is responsible for developing and delivering services including community education, preparation and planning for emergency events, firefighter safety during and after emergencies and engagement with communities through both station based operational staff and dedicated mulitcultural liaison officers.

Rob is married to Nicole with children Olivia (2002) and Aiden (2004)and enjoys family life, soccer, surfing, motorsports and watching Essendon FC.
